"Other Rooms, Other Blunders": Examining Daniyal Mueenuddin's Illustration of the Pakistani Feudal System

Mueenuddin's Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award Finalist(2009), his collection of short stories, In Other Rooms, Other Wonders, holds a magnifying glass to the social structure in Pakistan. Many of the short stories that revolve especially around the landowner K.K. Harouni focus on the tumultuous relationships that convey how the hierarchy is being transformed, as well as the complexities of those changes. This paper will examine the ways in which these interactions between the characters across the feudal divide reflect how deeply the feudal hierarchy is ingrained into the culture.
