Amanda K. Chua
Dr. Margaret Edwards, Faculty Mentor

The 2008 general elections in Malaysia marked the first time social media was used for political campaigning and this trend continued on into the 2013 general elections. The use of social media has changed the way politicians in Malaysia engage with the voters. Chief among these politicians is the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak who has over a million likes on his facebook page. This paper examines his use of social media for his political campaign from 2008 to 2013. It examines his moves on social media quantitatively and qualitatively to depict the man and the nation he is trying to lead.
