Prof. Patrick Lobert, Faculty Mentor

Messieurs les enfants by Daniel Pennac is a tale that follows the adventure of three boys, Igor, Nourdine, and Joseph. Their teacher, Mr. Crastaing, is infamous for being strict. One day, when the boys are misbehaving he gives them an essay to do as punishment. The subject: You wake up one morning and realize that you have been turned into adults. Completely distraught, you go into your parents room to discover they have been transformed into children. My project is a translation from French into English of selected chapters of the novel. I have translated parts of the story that recount the boys waking up and discovering their transformation. These pages describe how the children felt about their ordeal and show entertainingly how they dealt with their parents who have become children. My project also discusses problems I encountered while doing the translation and solutions I devised for those problems.
