The Women of My Home: A Photographic Homage
Mia P. Pohlman
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor

This body of work is an acceptance of still needing my mother and my home in the farming community in which I was raised. Using a 35mm film camera, I photographed this series of 15 black-and-white images at my grandma's house, and at my own and my deceased grandmother's homes, both of which are located on the farm that has been in our family for over 100 years. I used a darkroom to develop the film and print the images which, like memories, are partial views of objects and details that often go unnoticed in daily life. This work explores the quiet strength and courage it takes to live a life devoted to others. These images are an homage to my mother and my grandmothers, women who were stay-at-home mothers and have selflessly devoted their lives to their families, women who have made me who I am today.
