Eian P. Zellner♦
Dr. Jay Bulen, Faculty Mentor

When it comes to trumpet solo literature, the French style of composition poses an exciting, yet difficult challenge to the performer. Charles Chaynes Concerto for trumpet in C is no exception. This presentation will demonstrate and discuss Chaynes, initially daunting, yet ultimately satisfying composition style in his first Concerto for Trumpet, and explore the both the more conventional and unconventional aspects of the piece. Focusing on the first movement, I will also discuss the challenges of this piece and what should be considered when performing it.
