The Soci-Economic Development of Northeastern Missouri, 1850 - 1880
Rudolf P. Cesaretti
Dr. Kathryn Brammall, Faculty Mentor

Northeastern Missouri underwent fundamental socio-economic transformation during the period 1850 - 1880. Using primary documents collected from several northeast Missouri counties, this History Senior Capstone examines development and social change as evidenced by the region's involvement in several key industries as well as the American Civil War. By switching scales of analysis to analyze developmental change's effect on small communities, this study presents evidence that the dominant theoretical preconceptions of Missouri's socio-economic development obscure radical changes in power relations during the period in question.
