Memorys Truth: The Psychoanalytical Affects of Pluralism in Rushdies Midnights Children
Meagan E. McGlasson
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

As long as humans have been conscious, a question of the extent which interconnectivity plays in their lives has existed. While a multitude of factors including familial relations; romantic situations; and geography can affect these connections, Rushdies characters in Midnights Children are united by the circumstances of their birth. This essay will focus on the extent of these connections with respect to political and historical similarities, as well as attempt to explain the relationship between the main characters personalities and their postcolonial upbringing. Specifically, it will discuss how the personalities of Saleem, Shiva, and Pavarti are affected and connected through their identities as members of a family, a nation, and their classification as midnights children.
