Circumstances for Success: A Case Study of a Successful Female Drum Set Player
Harry C. Hackel ♦* and Dustin C. Palmer♦
Dr. Michael Bump, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this study is to explore, through an in-depth interview, the circumstances under which female drum set players find professional success. There have been very few studies of female musicians in popular music, and less of female drum set players. In addition, the drum set has received little scholarly attention, despite being included in most college music programs. This study will provide an example of a womans success in a male dominated field and evaluate what circumstances, attributes, and support systems lead to this success.
