Assessing Effective Vocabulary Methods
Abby L. MacConnell♦
Dr. Paul L. Yoder and Dr. Robert Martin, Faculty Mentors

The purpose of this project is to determine which types of vocabulary instruction techniques create the highest quiz scores for students; in other words, which vocabulary methods are most effective for student learning. Students will acquire approximately 120 new vocabulary words over the research period. The ultimate goal is to determine what vocabulary acquisition methods students will take with them into the future. I expect to find that students will respond best to cooperative learning (i.e., group work and active work in the classroom) versus typical lecture-based vocabulary instruction.
