Assessing the Impact of a Communist Political System on Romantic Attitudes

The foundations of a communist society lie in its attempt to achieve equality, in practice however the communist political system is based on oppression, a complete cultural isolation from any place or anything that does not conform to the communist ideology. The objective of this research was to study how intrusive the ideologies of this strict political system could be on the most personal aspects of a person's life, such as thoughts and feelings pertaining to love, relationships and family. Seventy-seven American and Albanian seniors, of age 50 or older, filled out a questionnaire that contained 25 items designed to measure romantic attitude differences based on four factors representing different aspects of romanticism. We found a significant difference in romantic attitudes depending on the political system each group lived in.
