Welfare Reform Ten Years Later: How Has it Affected American Families Today?
Camila M. Khan
Dr. Xiaofen Chen, Faculty Mentor
It is debated today whether the 1996 welfare reform legislation known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 has been successful in bringing families out of poverty in the long term. The purpose of my project is to measure and compare how much more effective today’s welfare system has been over the previous system in reducing poverty among American families.
