Conversations with the Camera
Lisa K. Margetis
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor
When I take a photograph I try to show a glimpse of an underlying story. This story is that of an intimate interaction between the person I am photographing, the camera, and me. I try to capture the subject’s character and through them perhaps my own. I’ve begun calling these interactions “conversations with the camera.” The conversation is playing two ideas. The first is literal where we (the subject and I) are actually talking and sharing stories. The other is a metaphorical idea in which I am trying to capture the conversation through an image. Not only am I talking while taking pictures, I want the pictures I am taking to talk.
