Cooling Down the Atmostphere One Synthesis At a Time

Emma M. Archer* and Thi A. Tran
Dr. Tim Humphry, Faculty Mentor

The molecules synthesized in the Humphry lab are modeled after common species detected in the atmosphere. They are believed to act as cooling agents in the atmosphere and probably also cause cloud nucleation. The molecule synthesized, potassium 2-methyl-2,3-butanediol sulfate, will be utilized as calibration standards for the atmospheric samples researched at the collaborative lab at University of Iowa.
