Social media has become an integral part of our everyday lives. In this study we are measuring the impact that our online presence has on our sense of self. Participants are currently filling out an online questionnaire containing a social media scale, General Self-Efficacy Test, the Self-Concept Clarity Test, and Harter's Self Perception Survey. The current literature addresses many individual and specific social media platforms, but there is no comprehensive scale measuring user behavior across all platforms. The current literature does not include many popular, contemporary mediums (Reddit, Tinder), and compartmentalizes user behavior into strict, unrealistic categories. We developed a social media scale for our study to measure user frequency, online behavior, and perceived importance of social media across all platforms. In addition to preliminary results, a theoretical and methodological discussion of these measures will be presented.
