Communism's Effect on Women in Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis
Hannah Whitt
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Communism may look like a nice idea in theory- but has shown to be destructive to societies that adopt it. This is beautifully shown in Persepolis, a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi. In Persepolis, Marjane autobiographically details the effects of living through the Iranian Revolution. My paper will explore how individualism and freedom can be found within harsh societies under Communist rule- especially for women.
