My Need to be Understood as a Sufferer of ADHD
Elliott Leong
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Disabilities often reveal themselves through noticeable differences that cause those without disabilities to misunderstand and interpret the condition as undesirable. ADHD is my disability and I have great need to be understood, and part of the problem in being misunderstood is the lack of others listening. My focus will be on my desire for others to listen and for the differently-abled to be heard; this raises the idea that the differently-abled should express their voice and the non-disabled should listen. In establishing this point, I will further discuss how listening can significantly help the differently-abled. By simply listening, we can begin to socially integrate those with disabilities back into society, and give them an opportunity to express their voice.
