The Implementation of Pre-teaching, Re-teaching, and Skill-building in a Math Strategies Course to Maximize Student Learning

This research examined how the implementation of pre-teaching, re-teaching, and skill-building in a new math strategies class impacted student learning. The structure was designed to have two days of pre-teaching, two days of re-teaching, and one day of skill-building for a course that took place five days a week. Data sources included attendance, student surveys, exit slips, standardized test data from the Northwest Evaluation Association Measurement of Academic Progress (NWEA - MAP), and students' grades from their core math class. The effectiveness of the structure was inconclusive. Elements of the components were successful and student learning was impacted, but the structure may or may not have contributed.
