From Once Upon A Time Until Now: Exploring Fairy Tale History through the Disney Immersive Experience
Katie S. Lucarz
Dr. Heather Cianciola, Faculty Mentor

Once Upon A Time, fairy stories were an entirely oral tradition. However, the communication of fairy tales has changed over time, and the Walt Disney Company has played an important role in contemporary fairy tales through its use of the immersive experience. When you walk through the gates of the Magic Kingdom onto Main Street, USA, you leave today and enter the world of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy. Everything at Walt Disney World is part of a story; everything that each cast member does and every inch of the parks and resorts bring new worlds and movies to life. This study addresses the experience I had as an English major while working as an intern at Walt Disney World during the Fall of 2014. In particular, this presentation will discuss Disneys Immersive Experience as the most recent step in the fairy story genre.
