Dr. Amber Johnson, Faculty Mentor
The choice of a college major can seem like a crucial decision in a young adults life because many future opportunities seem to depend on decision. But this choice might not be as important as it seems. This study examines what factors lead to current employment of Truman State University alumnus 5-10 years removed from college. It attempts to discover if there is a relationship between employment and college major choice. Research shows that there are factors that lead to future employment for college graduates and that major decision is not as important as once thought. This research involved 79 Truman State University graduates answering a questionnaire that was primarily open-ended questions. Although the choice of major does not seem to determine specific career choices, most graduates report that their job is somewhat linked to their current employment.
