Malcolm X: the "bad guy"?
Dimonique McGruder
Dr. David Robinson and Dr. William Ashcraft, Faculty Mentors
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X are seen in America history as the two most prominent civil rights leaders. King has long been viewed as the good guy while Malcolm X has been deemed the bad guy. Why is this? With my research, I look particularly at Malcolm X and hope to discover an answer to this puzzling question. Whatever produced this persona of Malcolm X in America society, it has continued to stand the test of time and deserves to be continually addressed and revisited. I hope to bring light to two significant men who have been labeled, polarized, and simplified in a way that complicates the picture and produces a better understanding of their contributions.
