Infant Hearing: Perspective of Expectant Mothers

This study collected survey data from expectant mothers concerning universal newborn hearing screenings (NHS). Mothers were questioned about key issues regarding the hearing screening age of language learning, expected follow-up after a potential failed screening, awareness and knowledge level of the NHS process, and the importance of early diagnosis. Quantitative and qualitative data from the surveys will be analyzed to detect trends in the attitudes, awareness, and knowledge of the parents regarding the NHS. We are hoping to use the information gathered in our research to create an educational tool which will be available for expectant parents and OB/GYNs to learn about issues regarding language learning and early detection of hearing loss as well as the general process of a newborn hearing screening.
