This action research study examined the effects of whether through an active teaching process by using the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility Model (Hellison, 2011), students can be taught personal and social responsibility. Fourth-grade students enrolled in elementary physical education classes (n=48) were observed over a four-week period. Students in one class were actively taught character traits in physical education, while students in the other class were not taught character traits. Students in both classes were observed to determine if social and personal responsibility were being exhibited. A T-chart was used to obtain the information about students and their character traits.
