Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A was written under the employment of Archbishop Colloredo of Salzburg. The melodies of the first two movements of the "Turkish" concerto are expressive and light-hearted, reflecting the influence of empfindsamer Stil and style galant prominent in the classical era. Though the cadenzas performed today were written over one hundred years after the concerto, they display the developing role of the musician as virtuoso in the 18th century, both challenging the performer and delighting the audience.
