According to the Truman Office of Admission website, Truman is committed to offering undergraduate students a diverse learning environment, although it does not offer a concrete definition of "diverse." In order to further investigate how Truman students perceive diversity on Truman's campus, this project compares student responses to questions about their experiences with racial, religious, gender, political, etc. diversity with photographic images of diversity in student life. By comparing perceptions with reality, students, teachers and administrators can better understand the true role that Truman plays in exposing students to diversity and how effectively Truman realizes its commitment to offering a "diverse learning environment." As demographics continue to shift and change across America, it is important and urgent to understand how students believe diversity is represented on campus in order to remain a competitive and current university.
