Experimental Stylistic, Tone, and Form Shifts in Creative Non-Fiction
Jeremy D. Jones
Dr. James D'Agostino, Faculty Mentor
Altering and expanding the idea of a work's actual form has brought change in many mediums of art, allowing the viewer/reader to reexamine what the art is, or how new forms can develop meaning. In my collection of a mixed-genre sequence of poems that employ prose strategies in evolving ways, I explore the growth of love, tragedy, and new life in my relationship with my wife and newborn son. The physical form of the text utilizes all parts of the page, the tone shifts without warning, and the style moves from poetry to prose from one phrase to the next. The intentions of disregarding common conventions of tone, form, and style are not simply to push boundaries, but an attempt to create a work of art that accurately embodies the emotion and narrative of my life with my wife and son.
