College wellness is important because it indicates how students handle the transition to college and how they succeed in a new environment. This study examined wellness trends by addressing the following question: What practices, factors, and resources do students perceive to inhibit or enhance levels of wellness? Wellness factors were assessed via two focus groups consisting of 8 individuals (4 per focus group) recruited from a pool of 430 survey participants impacting incoming freshman students who attend a small liberal arts college. Preliminary findings include: (a) overall wellness could improve or decline based on the quality of the support system. (b) The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected all focus group participants either mentally or financially leading to increased stress levels. Ultimately, the transition to college may lead to changes in the various dimensions of personal wellness dependent on the person.
