Madelyn G. Kreienheder♦
Dr. Rebecca Dierking, Dr. Barbara Price, and Dr. Adam Davis, Faculty Mentors

In an ever-changing world, education must constantly evolve in order to meet students’ needs. This study, taking place in a high school freshman English class, investigates the impact that incorporating nature into the English classroom has on student interest. Conducted during the district’s research unit, the teacher/researcher will exchange the curriculum’s suggested text with nature-related texts and direct the students to choose a nature-related topic to research. Using a qualitative case study design, data will include observation notes, one-on-one conferences with students, and student artifacts such as their infographics and presentations over their research topics. As a result of publication deadlines, findings from this research will be delayed until the presentation.
