The Fragility of a Young Mind: Marji's Transformation in Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
Jenna R. Heil
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

The thoughts and actions of Marji in Marjane Satrapi?s Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood show the malleability of an individual?s mind at a young age, showing that there is an obvious effect from nurture and environment. After the Islamic Revolution, there was dissonance between the teaching from the government, the schools, and even from her parents. The opposing views presented from different sources affect Marji?s thoughts and actions in her pre-teen years. This essay will explore the complex changes that occur in Marji?s life during this period and how she reacts to these changes.
