The Good, The Bad, and the Organized: Prohibitions Effect on the American People
Helmut A. Rentschler
Dr. Thomas Zoumaras and Dr. Jeff Gall, Faculty Mentors

My project will be focused on the topic on the 18th amendment of Prohibition. Prohibition was a national movement by the American government to illegalize alcohol throughout the nation. This movement of changing the country into a dry nation received very harsh criticism, and with it came change throughout the nation. I will be looking at how Prohibition had affected three cities in particular; Chicago, Kansas City, and St. Louis. The city of Chicago was widely known for its organized crime and mobsters which ran the alcohol throughout not only the town, but the country. Kansas City was full of political corruption and had a multitude of speakeasies and liquor running through its streets illegally. St. Louis has one of the biggest beer industries in the country at Anheuser Busch; they also had to change their product, and mascot to make a profit. I will be looking at how Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis were all affected by corruption and the effects of Prohibition.
