The Evolution of the Aerodynamics of Aircraft Structure
Sean F. Bergstedt
Dr. Ian Lindevald, Faculty Mentor
Since the dawn of successful human flight, inspired by the Wright brothers, aerodynamics has developed quite rapidly. The last century has brought about numerous and dramatic advances in the field of aeronautics which continues today with faster, larger, and higher flying aircraft never before seen. The design of aircraft structures, specifically, has developed markedly since its first conception. These changes in aerodynamic flight have been driven by sociopolitical phenomena. War, trade, technology, and travel are but a few of the driving forces to innovation in aircraft design. Aerodynamics in aircraft design continues its rapid evolution as newer technologies arise to meet the ever growing demands of the modern world.
