A Graphical Interface for Input and Output in Ada
Austin D. Abrams
Dr. Robert Matthews, Faculty Mentor
This presentation illustrates a new input and output interface for the Ada programming language. Because standard text I/O in Ada operates on a low level, it can be complicated for students new to programming. This interface has been designed so that it is flexible and easy to use for both the programmer and end user. Through this, students can grasp fundamental techniques - such as selection and iteration - sooner, without learning about primitive text manipulation first. This presentation describes the current Ada text I/O interface, the tools available for GUI design in Ada, description of some heterogeneous data structures in Ada, and the design and implementation of our replacement for the standard interface.
