The Digital Age Influence on Graphic Design: Impact on Designers' Workspace, Education and Role in Commerce and Culture
Andrew H. Pickering
Prof. Russell Nelson, Faculty Mentor

The Digital Age has had an immense impact on how the world communicates and observes information. The graphic designer determines these characteristics, and employs certain processes to communicate this information through an evolving workspace, educational theory and in business and culture. Graphic design has undergone revolutionary changes since the induction of the desktop computer. The tools, steps of production and the design studio have changed. Specialization in the designers’ studio is a result of diverse media, such as motion graphics and interactive channels. This specialization requires collaboration between different focuses to achieve good business planning. Educational institutions are encouraging a liberal education to cover the different areas of design application. In this presentation the designer will discuss the changes made in the graphic designers’ workplace, changes in educational design theory to compensate for the changing industry, and changes of design’s role in the business market.
