Script Conventions and Philosophy in Medieval Spain

For my undergraduate research project I worked with Dr. Tornatore in preparing transcriptions of hand-written, unedited medieval Spanish documents. The transcriptions were made from microfilm copies of the texts, and will be submitted for publication for use by scholars in electronic form. Many of the texts I worked with were writings on philosophy, including “Vidas y dichos de Philosophos antiguos,” an encyclopedia of the lives and teachings of classical philosophers. Most of the entries in this work consisted of a list of sayings attributed to the philosopher or a legendary episode from his life. This presentation will focus on both the form of the writings, the script and writing conventions employed; and also on the content, the focus of the philosophy current in medieval Spain and the nature of the science it presents.
